Event Details

Are you a sports journalist or do you want to be? The Temple Sports Journalism Summit will be held Monday, Oct. 29, at the Howard Gittis Student Center 200B, at 12th and Montgomery streets in Philadelphia on Temple University's Main Campus.

There is no charge for attending. But you must sign up so up. Registration, coffee and continental breakfast will start at 9:00am. The first session will begin at 9:45 a.m.

Paid parking is available in a vistor lot - entrance is on Montgomery east of 13th Street (http://www.temple.edu/parking/pdfdocuments/2010MainCampusMap.pdf). You can also get there by a train, subway or bus.

We will be holding a networking/job fair over lunch and if you'd like to an a table for your organization, just let us know. We have eight to 10 organizations (media outlets, sports teams) committed already. 

Here's the schedule:

 9:45 to 10:45 a.m. -- Getting to the heart of the story: Best
practices in sports writing. Present and former Philadelphia Daily News sports writers: Dick Jerardi, Mike Kern and Elmer Smith. Moderator: David Jones, Harrisburg Patriot-News columnist

11:15 a.m. to 12:15 p.m. -- Finding your career path: Navigating a
changing media world. Rob Ellis, Sportsradio WIP; Danny Pommells, Comcast SportsNet. Bonnie Clark, Phillies Vice President of Communications. Moderator: Matthew Fine, Assistant Professor, Temple Department of Media Studies and Production

12:15 to 1:30 p.m. — Lunch and job fair and general networking

1:30 to 2:30 p.m. -– Best practices of social media for reporting and branding: A look at tools such as Sulia, Yardbarker, Twitter and more. Matt Romanoski, executive sports producer for philly.com; Matt Mullin and Ryan Petzar, philly.com; Matt Gelb, Philadelphia Inquirer sportswriters; Audrey Snyder, Harrisburg Patriot-News sportswriter. Moderator: Dave Isaac, digital content producer for the Courier-Post in Cherry Hill, N.J.
 

2:45 to 3:45 p.m. -- The money side of sports. John George, Philadelphia
Business Journal writer; Mark Gullet, Philadlephia 76ers VP of Marketing; David Buck, Phillies Senior Vice President, Marketing and Advertising Sales. Moderator: John Quinn, Philadelphia Inquirer sports editor

4 p.m. Networking time.

Well, due to Hurricane Sandy, tomorrow's Sports Journalism Summit and APSE Mid-Atlantic Workshop is canceled (as is everything else at Temple). We have rescheduled the event for Tuesday, November 13th (same location - Student Center 200b - and times).
